Why we're different from both agencies and freelancers.

Most organisations looking for creative work end up choosing between a traditional agency or a freelancer. An agency gives you strategic oversight and project management, but comes with cost and process that can feel out of proportion for what you actually need. A freelancer is more affordable and direct, but limited in scope and harder to manage.

digital yarn sits between the two deliberately. We give you the strategic oversight and end-to-end management of an agency, with the flexibility and cost efficiency of a freelance model.

That means you can brief us on a TVC, a brand identity, a website, or a social campaign and get a coordinated team with a single point of contact throughout.

We work with organisations that exist for reasons beyond profit.

The clients we do our best work for are the ones with something real to say; a community to reach, a cause to amplify, a story worth telling.

NFPs, charities, sporting organisations, community groups. Organisations where the budget might be limited but the potential never is. That is where the modular model makes the most difference, and where we are most motivated to do the work.

When capacity allows, we take on several pro bono projects each year for causes that align with our values. If that sounds like you, reach out.

Charlie Butler (he/him) · Founder, Creative Director

After working with parkrun Asia Pacific on the Gold Coast, Charlie Butler made the move back to Adelaide (which he firmly believes is the best city in the world) in early 2024 to kickstart digital yarn.

If you manage to catch him somewhere other than behind the camera, you’ll likely find him hiking, showing off his really-only-slightly-better-than-average 8-ball pool skills, or searching for pretty little wildflowers. Charlie’s weaknesses include: almond croissants.

Charlie firmly believes that every project is personal, and injects candour, passion, and respect across every aspect of the creative process, ensuring that the end result is not only true to the client vision, but most importantly, a collaborative, seamless, and enjoyable experience.
