digital yarn is a Modular Creative Agency. Here’s exactly what that means in practice.
How it works
Traditional agencies run on permanent, dedicated teams. That model works well for large projects, but it comes with fixed overheads, and a lot of hands touching every piece of work, whether the project needs them or not.
digital yarn works differently. For each project, we assemble a team from our trusted network of local freelancers, built specifically around what that project requires. The team scales with the scope, and you pay for exactly what you need.
At the centre of every project is a creative director and project manager. One point of contact, responsible for the whole thing. Around that, we bring in the right specialists for the job. No account managers adding layers or generalists stretching themselves thin. We bring together the right people and manage the project end to end.
The Network
Our core asset is a network of experienced, trusted Adelaide-based creatives. Videographers, designers, developers, strategists, and more. We activate that network per project, which gives us the capability to take on work of any scale.
Because we work with specialists rather than generalists, the level of seniority on every project is high. The person doing the design work is a designer. The person shooting is a camera operator. No one is doing a job outside their lane.
We also actively invest in emerging Adelaide talent. Young creatives often have the skills but not the opportunity to work on projects at scale. We change that by bringing them into projects under close direction, giving them the experience and the work to show for it. Our community initiative, THREADWORKS, is part of how we keep finding and building that next generation of local talent.
Why not just use a freelancer or a traditional agency?
Both are genuinely good options, and digital yarn is not the right fit for every project. We would rather tell you that upfront than pitch you something that does not suit what you need.
Here is what each model does well, and where it gets complicated.
A traditional agency gives you strategic oversight, end-to-end management, and a team with broad capability. The tradeoff is cost and process. Their organisational structure means overheads get passed on, and projects can move slower than you need them to.
A freelancer gives you direct access to a specialist at a lower cost. The tradeoff is coordination. Finding the right person, writing the brief, managing revisions, keeping different specialists talking to each other becomes a significant workload.
digital yarn sits between the two deliberately. We give you the cost efficiency and specialist quality of a freelance model, with the creative direction and end-to-end management of an agency. We find the right people, write the briefs, coordinate the moving parts, and deliver the whole thing under one roof.
You end up with one point of contact, one invoice, and one unified team built for your project.
