It’s a little get-together with some creative people, but there’s no pitches. You start chatting to people without expectations.
You finally chat with someone you’ve seen around on Instagram but never talked to. You’re both just trying to figure it all out.
No one pitches anything. No one brags. You leave with a new connection and a reminder that you’re not doing this alone.
What is THREADWORKS?
THREADWORKS is a creative community based in Kaurna Adelaide, run by and for young people in creative industries.
Networking is an essential part of working in creative industries, but chatting to new people is a skill, and it’s intimidating when you’re dropped into a networking group for the first time.
THREADWORKS exists as a safe space for connection and collaboration.
We are for young creatives across any field - art, film, theatre, music, writing, design, business, craft.
If you’re a young person, you’re new to the industry, want to share ideas, build something, or just want to connect with people without pressure, you’re in the right place.
A digital yarn Initiative.
THREADWORKS has a very simple goal; to help young people connect with others in creative industries, learn new skills, and to be reminded that they’re not alone.
The best way to achieve this goal is to keep things simple. THREADWORKS has no long-term plans and no competitors. The only goal is to saturate the market, creating more community networking opportunities that are accessible to a more diverse group of people. A saturated market simply means more options, and that’s what THREADWORKS needs to be; another option.
There are no plans to make events more grandiose, because extravagant events means higher costs. Accessibility is front-of-mind, and each event needs to be relevant and genuinely beneficial for anyone who attends.
We’re always looking for feedback so that we can make our events as impactful as possible. If you’d like to make a suggestion, provide feedback, or help out, please put your details in the form below, or reach out to threadworks@digitalyarn.co
Next Event: Feedback Unlooped
Feedback Unlooped is about hearing what really matters through a conversation between people who couldn’t be more different. A seasoned professional, a young business owner, a creative freelancer, and a chronically online teen will come together to challenge each other, share honest perspectives, and disagree with each other.
The second ever THREADWORKS event, Feedback Unlooped, takes social media off of its pedestal and puts it back into real life. Everyone’s heard the same recycled advice; post consistently, use trending audio, use hooks, play into emotions. We don’t need to keep hearing that.
This panel steps beyond the usual advice to look at the human side of it all. How do you find time to post when you’re already stretched thin? Should you even be posting at all? Where’s the line between creating content that connects and selling out for engagement? Is there such a thing as ethical marketing, and do audiences even care anymore?
We’ll explore how social media has evolved, from the early internet days of experimentation to the current era of noise and burnout. How are your campaigns actually perceived by real people? How do you build a brand when the platforms themselves keep changing? And maybe most importantly, how do you create social media content if you hate social media?
Feedback Unlooped is about hearing what really matters through a conversation between people who couldn’t be more different. A seasoned professional, a young business owner, a creative freelancer, and a chronically online teen will come together to challenge each other, share honest perspectives, and disagree with each other.
We’re breaking the perpetual cycle of only hearing from people who have the same views as you do. Each panellist represents a completely different point of view:
A seasoned industry professional who founded the social media team in one of Adelaide’s biggest agencies over 12 years ago. They have been working in social media since before Instagram had Stories.
An influencer, who managed to turn social media into a full-time gig that enabled them to drive around Australia making content - twice.
A young creative who has found a career in UGC.
A chronically online teen who has zero interest in social media as a job, and has experienced the negative feedback loops firsthand.
Arrive at 6:00, grab a drink, and settle in for the discussion. The panel will kick-off at 6:15, with time for a 15-minute Q&A at 7:00. If you're still feeling social, there will be dedicated networking time until event close at 8:30.
